Great training on scaffolding today at BCC! Tom, Anniqua, and Katie put togher inspiring and engaging presentations and shared wonderful information that I feel I can use immediately in class. Let’s have more cross campus training sessions like this one soon!
Quick update from this event –
I used the quotes step from Tom’s “Q”ing method in class Monday in place of lecturing on the how and why theory behind writing narration/description and it went incredibly well. Today, I did the same with theory-based readings (quotes and quonnections – although I’m going to call them something different). It was CRAZY! I didn’t have to give any examples – they quickly adapted what they’d done on Monday with the theory. Their quotes were tears-in-the-eyes brilliant, and the “normal” controlled chaos I encourage was intensely focused on reading!
Even more amazing was how they made the connections (I did have to do one of these to give them the idea). Like ducks to water they were! The best part was watching students who have never said a single word in discussions up at the board circling, drawing lines, and writing notes like houses on fire! I’m addicted.
All the best,
Trish
